Take an optional side trip by boat to the historical island of Delos. The ruins of the temple of Isis is considered to be of great significance to women and if you feel like climbing to the top to say hello, the choice is yours. Kalimera as we say in Greek!! Today is another day of leisure in this divine part of the world! So much to choose from. Start the morning off by having a very slow and leisurely breakfast. We suggest perhaps taking a local caique boat and go beach hopping for the day, before returning and watching the sun go down on Platy Gialos beach! Today is all about you! (BB)
Wake up and have a frappe! The local iced coffee that Greece adores! Take it sweet, with sugar or "metrio" which means, medium, whatever suits your tastebuds. We can assure you that there is nothing "metrio" about Mykonos. We suggest you take a local method of transport, and head to one of our favourite beaches. Discover the island and perhaps stop in town afterwards for some seafood! (BB)
Your last day in Mykonos should be spent soaking up the sun, but don't forget the brilliant little town of Chora! With its plethora of shops and restaurants there is plenty to do here before heading off to the beaches for one last plunge in the sea! We suggest going the distance and seeking out Elia or Kalafatis beaches. There is always the elite beach of Psarou nearby your hotel, but why not take some time and find seclusion. PThere is plenty to choose from! Enjoy a dinner at leisure as you watch the sun set on this iconic little island. (BB)
After breakfast, take your private transfer to the port to board your ferry and head to Santorini. Upon arriving you will be met and transferred to your hotel to check-in. So much to do!! Discover the village of Fira, the islands capital, visit the amazing ruins of Akrotiri, a testament to a once magnificent civilization that was covered in volcanic ash during the cataclysmic eruption 3500 years ago before perhaps tasting some local delicacies and local wines of the island. This evening maybe visit the village of Oia, reportedly the most romantic village in the South Mediterranean. Whether you wish to spend time on the black volcanic beach, lounge by the pool, or perhaps visit the prehistoric museum and imagine what the lost city of Atlantis looked like, your Destination Manager is on call to give you all the suggestions you need. You just arrived, so a little bit of chill time is in order before you start exploring. (BB)
Have a late start to the day before perhaps taking a local boat and sail to the volcano. For those who feel like a taking a wee hike, you can walk up to the tip of the volcanic islet and capture the view of the main island from a different perspective. After, jump or gradually ease in to the thermal waters and have fun with some pure volcanic mud before boarding the boat again and sail to the north rim of the caldera for sunset and a light meal. Should you wish to visit the other villages of Santorini, Pyrgos is the place to go! Fava beans, tomato pancakes washed down with a little Vinsanto wine. check!! The day is your to revel in. (BB)
Enjoy your included breakfast and then perhaps head towards one of the black beaches for something different. Choose to have a meal that includes some calamari, with lightly squeezed lemon, and add a fantastic Santorini salad with capers and delicious feta cheese, washed down with a bit of ouzo or a glass of Asyrtiko, the local white wine variety. This evening, after you have been sun kissed, our suggestion is to head to the beautiful town of Oia, for sun set and sundowners!
Have a leisurely morning and then perhaps take a few hours to visit the mesmerising pre-historic "lost" city of Akrotiri. Destroyed by the massive volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, the discovery of this advanced civilization revealed so many secrets! They never imagined such a fantastic city existed and now its your turn to see what they have unearthed! 4500 years of mysticism will be brought to life! Its one of our favourite archaeological sites!! Atlantis may be a myth, but what you see in front of you will definitely keep you pondering if it was real!
We suggest that you take the day to explore the cliff side streets and take a beautiful walk from Firostefani to Fira and discover the many cobble stone pathways that lead to the most picturesque views that are the "postcard" moments you dream of. Imerovigli, Exo Gonia, Megalochori and Akrotiri village are some of the areas where you can find the most local tavernas to tease your tastebuds. If you feel you want to do something different, go the Santo Winery and treat yourself to a wine tasting, it comes with cheeses, local dips with capers and take in the views! Use all your senses today and take pictures with your eyes for lasting memories!
After breakfast transfer to the port to catch your ferry for the wonderful grand island of Crete! Check in to your hotel and start exploring at leisure. There is plenty to do on the largest island of Greece, from tasting all the wonderful village food, cheeses and wines, discovering the historical site of Knossos Palace, visiting some of the loveliest beaches in the south Mediterranean and soaking up the sun! Enjoy every moment!
Take your time and enjoy the included breakfast in your hotel, perhaps take a swim and lounge by the pool. There is plenty to do today, but why not start with a little Cretan history and visit the 4500 year old Palace of Knossos. Immerse yourself in the legends of Theseus, King Minos and the Minotaur and then perhaps visit a nearby beach such as Amoudara Beach! If you feel like staying close to the city, its only 5 kilometres away to the west!
There are many beaches in Crete near the city of Heraklion, so venture out a little further today and perhaps visit Hersonissos to the west or Gouves to the East. The mountain village of Arhanes is also a beautiful little spot to visit and was awarded "best restored village" in Europe after a recent renovation to its typical Cretan houses. On the way back, we can suggest a stop at a local winery if you choose, at Peza Village. Visit Heraklion town this evening and treat yourself to a round of "loukoumades" after dinner.
If after breakfast you still feel a little bit peckish, then we can definitely suggest you head down to the Morosini Fountain and Square and treat yourself to a local cheese or custard "Bougatsa" at the popular coffee shop of "Filo...Sophies" ...its simply one of the most scrumptious pastries you may ever try! Later today, as Crete now holds the title for the largest Aquarium in the Mediterranean since 2005, why not visit the CretAquarium, which is located near the beach of Hani Kokkini! The Caves of Matala, about 70 kilometres away from the town of Heraklion are also worth a visit. This area was popular in the 1970s as the best place to be, according the famous singers Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell! The ancient city is still submerged underwater, but its simply beautiful to see. Today, the Matala beach area is still as popular so if you want to visit it, please do take comfortable shoes, but also your bathing suit! You may not want to leave and what better way to find appreciation for this magnificent island than paying tribute to its rich and diverse natural history. Find a local tavern or restaurant in Heraklion, and enjoy your last evening with Greek Cretan cuisine! Your Destination Manager will have plenty of suggestions for you!
Today you say goodbye to what we hope was a wonderful lifetime experience. Transfer to the airport for your flight home. Remember that Greece is always going to welcome you back! So we do not say "goodbye" as such, but "upon your return"
